Fablab Safety

What i have learnt studying for the Fablab safety quiz is be aware of my surroundings and to abide by the rules. Certain machines that require training or assistance must be dealt with extra caution.

The following guidelines should be followed for student attire

a shirt with a collar and full-length trousers.

b. Avoid wearing loose-sleeved clothing and jewelry.

c. Do not clean your clothing with compressed air.

d. All shoes must be covered - NO open-toed shoes.

e. Long haired students must tie up their hair to avoid being entangled in rotating machinery. The use of Personal Protective Equipment(PPE) required in some laboratories and workshops to safeguard against workplace and machine hazards would include safety goggles, safety glasses, masks, gloves, ear plugs, and earmuffs.

Other rules

1 Eating and drinking in labs and workshops is strictly prohibited.

2. In laboratories and workshops, students must turn off their mobile phones.

3. Don't forget to be alert. Be aware of all warning signs and safety notices.

4. Know the location of the first-aid box, safety eyewash, and chemical spill kit in each laboratory and workshop.

5. Know every fire escape exit and assembly area.

6. In the laboratory/workshop, mischievous or malicious behavior is not allowed.

7. Safe operating or work procedures must be followed. Until the TSO or lecturer in charge has properly instructed you, do not operate machines.

8. When in doubt, ask your lecturer-in-charge or TSO for help.

9. All safety devices and machine guards must not be tampered with.

10. Avoid taking unsafe shortcuts or bypassing any safety devices or controls.

11. When you leave the lab/workshop, clean the work area.

12. Inform your lecturer-in-charge or the technology support officer if you see any UNSAFE conditions or UNSAFE acts.

13. If you are feeling unwell or injured, notify your lecturer-in-charge or TSO immediately.
